Shopping with the Golden Eagles: A Heartwarming Partnership with Marquette University Men’s Basketball Team and St. Catherine Students

For the past four years, Marquette University athletes have brought the spirit of giving to life through the “Shopping with the Golden Eagles” program, spearheaded by men’s basketball head coach, Shaka Smart. Each December, Marquette athletes team up with students from St. Catherine School for a shopping spree at Kohl’s, creating memories and spreading joy during the holiday season.

This program reflects more than just holiday cheer; it’s a bridge connecting the Marquette community with younger generations. For St. Catherine students, the chance to interact with college athletes—role models who embody dedication and teamwork—is a unique and meaningful experience. Watching their faces light up as they choose gifts for themselves, and their loved ones is a reminder of the joy generosity can bring.

The event also opens doors for the students to dream bigger and see possibilities for their future. Spending time with the athletes allows them to imagine new paths for themselves, whether in academics, athletics or personal development. For Marquette athletes, the program offers a valuable reminder of their impact off the court. They step into the role of mentors and community leaders, showcasing the values that extend far beyond their athletic achievements.

St. Catherine School deeply appreciates this incredible partnership. Each year, the event strengthens the bonds between St. Catherine and Marquette University, providing cherished memories and lasting inspiration for our students. We are incredibly thankful for the time, effort, and resources that Coach Smart and his athletes dedicate to this initiative. It’s a tradition we look forward to every year, and we’re eager to see this partnership flourish for many more years to come.
